| Chinese Language & Culture Immersion |
(866) with-SLG (Toll Free) You have the drive and interest to immerse yourself in all that a new school and culture can offer, and you want to prepare yourself for career and life choices you've never even imagined, but you don't want to delay your regular school progress and your parents are reluctant to let you go for one year... If that is your situation, Sino Language Gateway Immersion Chinese Summer Camp is right for you. Our unique program provides elementary, middle and high school students worldwide to attend school in China from June to August every summer, either for two weeks or two months. Whether you are a first-time participator or a repeating student, you will find there is a program for you.
We arrange escorted group air travel between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Beijing International Airport (PEK). A SLG agent will assist students with luggage and check-in at SFO, and accompany them on the plane to Beijing. Another agent will greet the students at the Beijing International Airport and arrange transportation to the campus. We strongly recommend that students from the U.S. depart from SFO Airport at the scheduled time whenever possible. Traveling in a group will help alleviate anxiety and culture shock, which is often experienced when traveling to a different country. Tentative 2007 escorted group travel arrangement:
You will be given a Preliminary Chinese Proficiency Test upon you arrive in the host school in order for us to know your level of training in Chinese and to place you in the proper class, from beginning to advanced. The test is prepared by the host schools in China.
During the orientation in the opening days of the camp in China, we do everything possible to get you off to a good start in your new lives abroad. We will share with you as much information as possible without taking away the sense of spontaneous adventure so important in a sojourn abroad. We also encourage our students to attack the challenge of adopting a new culture with a positive attitude, eager to make things work, rather than just waiting for them to happen. In the orientation package, we will provide you with:
We want you to realize that SLG offers opportunities, not guaranteed and ready-made happiness. We want you to take charge of your life and responsibility for your own success from the outset. At the same time, the counselors and the teachers will give you advises and helps anytime you needed, assist you with problems ranging from homesickness to homework, from travel plans to time management, from money matters to misunderstanding with each other...Moreover, we will be in contact with your family, to help them get the most updated news about you.
We provide many free services including: Passport Safe-keeping, Money Exchange and Safe-keeping. We will collect all students’ passports once they arrive in Beijing and safe-keep them for the entire camp period. We will also safe-keep money for students if they prefer. Money can be withdrawn thereafter on a weekly basis. We have also prepared a variety of sports goods for students to borrow and use for free, including: basketball, volleyball, football, tennis & badminton rackets and balls, Chinese chess, etc.
Our host schools have its own clinics with modern medical equipment on campus. General practitioners treat student's routine illnesses and are quick to refer to competent doctors and hospitals when appropriate. We will immediately notify parents at home if serious medical problems arise. You are fully covered in the event of illness, accident or other travel emergency. Our program includes comprehensive medical and travel insurance from Specialty Risk International, and the cost of this coverage is included in the program fee. The insurance covers against personal illness, personal injury, emergency medical evacuation, emergency reunion, loss of checked luggage, local ambulance expense, hospital room & board, intensive care, terrorism, etc. Your coverage will begin one day earlier than the camp starting date, which usually is the date you depart your home country, and end on the day you return to your home country.
